Eyebrow Transplants In The UK: Cost, Results And What To Expect
Thick, defined eyebrows have been in fashion for over a decade now, and that is a problem if yours are naturally sparse or if you spent the nineties and early two thousands plucking them into a thin line. Over-plucking damages the follicle, and after enough years of it the hair simply stops coming back.
An eyebrow transplant is the only permanent answer to that. It moves your own living hair follicles into the brow, where they take root and keep growing. Not the appearance of hair, like microblading or a tattoo, but real hair you can brush, trim and shape.
What an eyebrow transplant actually involves
The follicles are taken from the back of your scalp or from behind the ear, where the hair is finest and closest in texture to brow hair. They are then placed one at a time into the brow, at the angle and direction the surrounding hair grows.
That last part is what separates a good eyebrow transplant from an obvious one. Scalp hair grows more or less straight out. Brow hair lies almost flat against the skin and changes direction across the brow, sweeping up at the inner end and out towards the tail. Every graft has to be angled to match, which is why this is a slower and more meticulous procedure than its small size suggests.
It is carried out under local anaesthetic. You are awake throughout and most people find the anaesthetic injections the least comfortable part of the day.
Who it suits
- Brows thinned by years of plucking, waxing or threading
- Naturally sparse or patchy brows
- Gaps left by a scar, a piercing that has grown out, or an injury
- Hair lost through burns or trauma
- Brows lost to a medical condition, once it is stable and your doctor is happy for you to proceed
It is not the right answer for everyone. If your eyebrows have thinned suddenly rather than gradually, that usually points to something else going on, commonly a thyroid problem, a nutritional deficiency or alopecia areata. See your GP before you consider surgery. Treating the cause may bring the hair back on its own, and if the underlying condition is still active a transplant is likely to be wasted.
What an eyebrow transplant costs in the UK
In the UK an eyebrow transplant usually costs between £2,500 and £5,000, with finance plans from £62 a month. Most people need somewhere between 200 and 500 grafts. Because a brow needs far fewer grafts than a scalp procedure, it sits below the cost of a full hair transplant, which runs from £3,000 to £7,000.
We will not quote you a firm price before we have looked at your brows, and you should be wary of any clinic that does. The number of grafts you need depends on how much of the brow is missing and what shape you want, and that is not something anyone can judge from a phone call. You get your exact price at your assessment, in writing, before you commit to anything.
How long it takes, and when you see results
The procedure itself usually takes two to four hours depending on whether you are filling a small gap or rebuilding the whole brow. You go home the same day.
The healing runs to a predictable timetable. Small scabs form and drop away over the first week or so. The transplanted hairs then shed, which alarms people who are not expecting it, but the follicle stays put beneath the skin. New growth starts coming through at around three months, and the brow reaches its final look somewhere between six and eight months.
There is one quirk worth knowing about. The hair came from your scalp, so for the first year or two it keeps its old habits and grows longer than brow hair does. You trim it. Most people do it when they would otherwise be shaving, and it settles down over time.

How often do they take?
Success rates for eyebrow transplants are typically around 90%, slightly lower than for scalp work. The reason is straightforward: the graft sites in a brow are shallower than on the scalp, so the follicles are held less securely while they establish.
That is why the first fortnight matters more here than after a scalp procedure, and why the aftercare instructions are worth following to the letter rather than approximately. Not rubbing the area, keeping make-up and skincare off it and leaving the scabs alone all count towards the grafts that take.
Is it worth it?
If you are filling in your brows with a pencil or powder every single morning, that is a few minutes a day and a running cost for the rest of your life. A transplant is done once. That is the honest trade-off, and it is why most of the people who come to us for brows are not chasing a trend, they are tired of the daily routine.
