Hair loss is a reality for thousands of people in the U.K. It can have a huge impact on someone’s confidence and self-esteem. Thankfully, there are lots of different hair loss solutions available – whether you are looking for a permanent or temporary solution, there’s something out there for you.
One of the solutions we offer at UK Hair Transplant Clinics is Scalp Micro-Pigmentation (SMP). This is essentially small tattoos that replicate the appearance of real hair follicles. The pigment is inserted with a micro needle within the dermal layer of the skin. These tiny pockets which help to imitate the appearance of individual follicles. Scalp micropigmentation can be very flexible and can be tailored to each individual person.
A client will be able to choose the:
- Shape of the hairline.
- The colour of the pigment.
- Placement of the pigment.
This makes it a great solution for those that want total control over the shape of their hairline or want a clean, defined look.

Scalp Micro Pigmentation Aftercare
Scalp micropigmentation is a semi-permanent solution to hair loss and only requires a small touch up every 3-4 years’ in some cases as the pigment does fade over time. There will be a detailed consultation prior to the treatment which allows you to discuss your needs and decide if micropigmentation is the right option for you, if it is you can then design the whole look you want from front to back. Treatments can usually need 2 or 3 sessions which take around 4 hours, and there is no recovery period. This means you can return to your regular life quickly however we wouldn’t recommend going straight on holiday as the sun could damage new pigment in the first week. SMP is also a great solution for those that want to cover scars, alopecia or blemishes on the scalp.
SMP will only benefit those with very little or no hair at all growing on their scalp (Norwood 6 or 7) as they are very likely to be unsuitable for a hair transplant. The micro pigments will not mimic long strands of hair, nor will it help your hair to grow. It merely mimic hair follicles, to looking like a freshly shaven head.
If you are interested in having scalp micropigmentation carried out then we would advise that you attend one of our free consultations. This will allow us to assess whether you are a suitable candidate.
