Hair loss in women
Hair Transplant For Women
A hair transplant for women starts with finding out what is actually causing the loss, because in women there is rarely one single explanation. We offer female hair transplants and non-surgical treatment, and we will tell you honestly which one suits you.
Hair loss in women
Why hair loss in women is different
Treating hair loss in women has to start with the cause, because unlike men there is rarely a single explanation. In men it is nearly always male pattern baldness. In women it can be thyroid problems, hormonal changes, stress, pregnancy, alopecia, heat styling, tight hairstyles such as braids and ponytails, extensions, or a poorly managed diet.
That difference shapes the treatment. Women more often experience diffuse thinning across the scalp rather than areas of complete loss, and a transplant can only be placed where hair has genuinely gone. Transplanting into an area that is thinning but still growing risks damaging what is left.
For that reason we usually start most female patients on thickening treatment rather than surgery, and only recommend a transplant when the assessment shows it is the right answer.

Hair transplant for women, and the non-surgical route
Hair growth products are where most women begin. These include stimulants that encourage growth and topical solutions that thicken the hair still present. The market is full of products with very little behind them, so our team will point you towards the ones that actually work.
Hair replacement treatment is our specialist area, and we have helped a great many women restore their hair. If you have a receding hairline or a defined area of loss, a transplant is an excellent option. If the hair is simply thinning, we will assess carefully whether surgery can be done without damaging existing growth.
Which route we recommend depends entirely on your assessment. The first step is a free, confidential consultation, after which our experts can put together a plan to stop further loss and restore what you have lost.
Hair growth products
There are plenty of hair products aimed at reducing the effects of thinning hair in women, from stimulants that encourage growth through to solutions that thicken the hair that is left. A lot of the time with female patients we start with products, because hair transplants can only be done in areas where hair has been completely lost. Most of the time with women the hair has only thinned rather than gone completely, so we start with thickening products first. Our team will guide you towards the products that genuinely work.
Hair replacement treatments
At UK Hair we have successfully helped a great many men restore their hair, and we have addressed countless hair concerns for women too. If you are worried about a receding hairline, a hair transplant is an excellent option. However, if your hair is simply thinning, we recommend a consultation to assess whether a transplant can be done without damaging your existing hair.
We understand that the struggle with hair loss is just as real for women, and our results speak for themselves. If you are a woman seeking a solution for thinning hair, reach out for a free and confidential hair loss consultation with our team of experts.
Hair transplant for women at a glance
Around 97% for FUT, the technique most often used for women. If a transplant does not take we would ask you to see your GP and a dermatologist to rule out an underlying cause before we honour the guarantee with another treatment.
Thyroid conditions, hormones, stress, pregnancy, alopecia, heat styling and tight hairstyles can all contribute, which is why diagnosis comes first.
Female hair loss can often be treated without surgery, which keeps costs lower. Non-surgical plans start from around £25 a month, and transplants range from £3,000 to £7,000 depending on graft numbers.
A 30 minute consultation on the morning of surgery, around 5 to 6 hours of treatment, then a 30 minute discharge with the surgeon and a written aftercare letter.

FAQs
Hair transplant for women: your questions answered
When can I style my hair again after treatment?
You can tie your hair up straight away. Heat tools such as straighteners, dryers and curlers should wait 2 weeks after surgery, and hairspray for 4 weeks, because it can block the pores and cause ingrown hairs.
How long do I need to use non-surgical products?
For as long as you want to keep the benefit. The products only work while you are using them, so stopping means gradually returning to the pattern you would otherwise have had.
Will I need my head shaved for a transplant?
No. Female cases are usually planned so that existing hair covers the treated area, and FUT is often chosen partly for that reason. This is covered in detail at your consultation.
Can hair loss after pregnancy be treated?
Postpartum shedding often settles by itself as hormones rebalance, so we would not rush into treatment. If it has not recovered after several months we can assess whether treatment is worthwhile.
Is the consultation confidential?
Completely. Consultations are free, confidential and carried out by our own team, and there is no obligation to proceed with anything afterwards.
How long after treatment can I style my hair again?
You can tie your hair up straight away. Heat products such as straighteners, hair dryers and curlers should wait 2 weeks after surgery. Hairspray cannot be used for 4 weeks after treatment, as it can block the pores and cause ingrown hairs.
If I am recommended non-surgical solutions, how long do I use them for?
You need to use them for as long as you are concerned about your hair. The products only work while you are using them, so if you stop at any point you will gradually return to the pattern you would otherwise have had.
Will the transplant show while my hair is growing?
Female cases are usually planned so that your existing hair covers the treated area, and FUT is often chosen partly for that reason. Your consultant will talk you through exactly how it will look at each stage during your consultation.
What is the success rate for women?
For women the technique used is usually FUT, which has a success rate of around 97%. If a transplant does not take, it can indicate an underlying issue, so we would ask you to see your GP and a dermatologist before we carry out another treatment under the guarantee.

Free Retreat Or Your Money Back
It is easy to make bold statements of success and much harder to stand behind them in a fast growing and heavily advertised market. We deal with real problems and appropriate solutions every day, and we have never been afraid of backing up what we claim. We only accept patients we know we can help, and we set expectations we know can be met, which is what allows us to offer a guarantee at all. If we are unable to achieve the treatment plan and the realistic result that goes with it, we will welcome you back and treat you again at no extra cost. That happens rarely. In the event that we cannot retreat you for medical reasons, you receive an appropriate refund instead.
All Surgical Facilities Are Registered With The Government's CQC (Care Quality Commission)
Our facilities are a blend of clinical technology and considered design. Our treatment and surgery rooms are designed to combine the latest in science and aesthetics. Our surgery rooms are fully equipped to handle a full day of Microscopic Follicular Unit Hair Transplantation or Follicular Unit Extraction surgery, one patient per room. Each surgery room is adjunct to a row of five to six high definition, optimal resolution microscope stations where technicians cut and sliver a patient's donor strip. No matter which facility you choose for your treatment, our attentive staff and relaxed, contemporary setting helps put patients at ease from the minute they have their hair loss assessment to the moment the surgery is complete.
Surgeons Who Only Do Hair Restoration
The physicians at UK Hair perform just one procedure: hair transplantation. They work one-on-one with patients throughout the process and typically prefer to schedule only one procedure a day to give each patient the attention and care they deserve.
Written Guarantee With Your Treatment
We advise over 6,000 patients every year. Hair loss and its correction is all we do, which is why we are willing to put our guarantee in writing rather than leave it as something said in a consultation room. Every surgical procedure we carry out comes with a written guarantee that sets out what we have agreed to achieve, and exactly what happens if we do not achieve it.
We Would Rather Say No Than Get It Wrong
We stand by our guarantee, but we take no pleasure in retreating patients, because for most people that is an added inconvenience they could do without. We do everything we can to avoid it being necessary, and that starts at the assessment. Only around 40% of the people we assess turn out to be suitable for a hair transplant, and we will say so when surgery is not the right answer. Years of experience mean we can usually spot a potential problem at consultation, and where we do, we say so.
