As we move through the winter months, many of us are in a rush to prepare for Christmas and New Year with dinners to dish out, parties to attend to, and presents to buy.
However, we tend to forget about looking after ourselves, particularly with regards to our hair care routine. The cold and dry elements of winter weather can have a big impact on your hair, especially for those who have undergone recent hair transplant surgery.
But don’t worry! We’re here to give you some helpful hair care tips and advice this winter.
Winter hats
During the winter seasons, woolly hats and scarfs are usually a warm welcome item of clothing to fight the cold. However, the tight and constant friction against our head can cause hair to break easily, and lead to an irritable scalp.
It’s best to wear looser hats to allow your hair and head to breathe naturally, whilst keeping you dry. Or, simply use a silk scarf underneath to avoid sweating and any itchiness.
Avoid heated curlers or straighteners
Of course, we want to look stylish for Christmas and New Year, but when it comes to keeping your hair healthy, heated curlers and straighteners are a big no!
Heat styling is known to damage your hair and take the moisture away – making your hair even more fragile and dry.
Keep your hair looking natural, use drops of oil to lock in moisture, and if you still desire curls for Christmas, use buns or hair rollers as an alternative.
Don’t wash your hair regularly
Similarly, washing your hair on a daily basis can leave it dehydrated, stripped of its natural oils, and brittle as a result.
Experts recommend washing your hair every 2-3 days for shiny and vibrant hair.
After receiving a hair transplant, there are a couple of ways to wash your hair depending on the graft and treated area on your head.
Wait to wash your hair for at least 10 days after treatment to avoid any risk of infection.
Drink water
Speaking of water, did you know it’s not only good for your body but for your hair too?
Drinking plenty of it will not only nourish your scalp, but also prevent spilt ends and dandruff from occurring, and encourage hair to grow fuller and shinier.
